All About Pipe Smoking

In 1800's/1900's tobacco smoking was intensely popular in Podhale area. In fact, the region was somewhat a pipe making tycoon, with customers in Spisz, orawa and Gorc areas lining up for the armoured and decorated instruments.

The latest exhibition at the Tatra Museum is aimed at remembering this trade, once so blooming in Podhale, and now extinct. It presents not only a variety of pipe types made in 1880-1969, as well as decorations and hand-made piping accessories and a selection of historical photographs and quotes, in which a 19th c. highlander was always depicted with an ever-present pipe in his mouth.
