Women's Day

This is perhaps a date with which both men and women from Western Europe are unfamiliar - but it's a significant day in Poland, as well as Russia and other parts of Central and Eastern Europe.

The idea behind it is equality and independence. However, women in Poland usually expect a token of appreciation from the men in their lives, be they husbands, boyfriends, bosses or mates. For men, it's not as daunting as it sounds, for a single carnation will do the trick.
