From Samarkand: Leon Barszczewski

Back in the day, it wasn't enough for a man to excel in just one field, or at least that seems to have been the view of Leon Barszczewski (1849-1910).

He was a traveller, photographer, naturalist, military man, explorer and geologist amongst other things. These photographs come from the collection of his great grandson, Igor Strojeckiego, and accompany an exhibition of oriental carpets currently on display in the same gallery.
