This gallery provides a link with the lost Polish city of Lwow (now Lviv, in the Ukraine). It was here in Zakopane that one of Poland's most exquisite collections of oriental carpets was resurrected. The Kulczycki family managed to salvage their collection in spite of the mass Soviet repatriation from Lwow and the ensuing problems of the communist era. Throughout the fifties, Jerzy Kulczycki managed to keep the carpets stashed beneath his floorboards. Finally, when political matters got somewhat better, he was able to sell to find a permanent home for the treasures. Some went to Wawel Royal Castle, whilst the rest came to Zakopane.
