EXHIBITION: THE TIME OF THE TATRA EXPLORERS

Sat 1st
Aug

It wasn't so long ago that Zakopane was considered off limits. So remote was the settlement 150 years ago that city dwellers didn't dare venture here. Of course, in those days, Zakopane was little more than a few hovels, but in the late 19th century it suddenly became wildly fashionable. Poets and painters created a cult of the highlander, and the intelligentsia flocked to build villas at the foot of the mountains. This exhibition takes us back to the era of those early pioneers who explored the region, and the country folk who were their redoubtable guides.
