What's cool...

Once upon a time - high in the Highlands - there were three brothers with a hangover (it was pretty a much permanent thing). One day, a witch woke them up and took them to the top of a craggy mountain. There she gave them three distinctly out of tune violins. She promised to take the hapless trio back down again, but only if they played her a wistful tune. The thing was, although the brothers had played the violin as children, that was many, many moons ago. What's more, they were feeling a little too croaky to sing that morning. All the same, not being desperate to be turned into toads, the brothers mustered all their energy and began to play....

The sound that was pioneered that day is of course Gorale Music, the sound of the Polish Highlands. Not everyone wants to bop away to it, but we think it's nothing short of glorious. Like the bag-piping, kilted song of the Scottish mountains, Gorale music is a legend in itself. You won't be able to miss it in Zakopane - even if you want to in fact. And if you're really lucky, you may even stumble across the treasured Goralski Dub, the sound created by local lads Trebunia and Caribbean legends the Twinkle Brothers.

But enough musical digressions for now - what's new in Zakopane itself? Well, for everyone except naturists, the hot, or rather cold news is that the snow is on its way, which means skiing galore! It's what we've all been waiting for, so grab your skis and head for the Highlands.

The other exciting news from Zakopane Life is that we're now offering a tremendous array of tours. Whether you want to zip into the foothills and discover Unesco listed wooden churches, or set off for a sunset panorama of the mountains, we're here to ensure that you get the very best.

Back in town, we'd recommend Nosalowy Dwor, Staro Izba and Little Swizterland for a hearty dinner. Ampstrong is the place for party animals, whilst if you're after lots of creature comforts during your stay, head for Belvedere Hotel and Spa.

Finally, if you can find a copy of the Twinkle brothers album 'Twinkle in a Polish Stylee', snap it up immediately. They're like gold dust...
