English speakers in Warsaw shops / bars / restaurants

As someone going to Warsaw for the first time, who only speaks English, can I expect that many people working at shops, bars and restaurant around the centre of the city will speak English? How often and to what degree should I expect this not to be the case, generally speaking? I know this is a probably complicated question and I'm asking for a simple answer, but any help here would be great, thanks. - Steve

Yes, most people working in bars, restaurants and shops will be able to communicate with you in English. Not so much the older generation, but definitely the younger...

Young Polish people are particularly into learning new languages and the current trend is for English. You can comfortably assume that anyone under 30 working in a larger/chain shop will speak English, at least a little. Young people 20-30 often know German as well. The older generation is most likely to know Russian.
