Where to socialise in Warsaw?

Anyone recommend any nice, safe places to go and have a drink and maybe get to know a few people in Warsaw? Been here a few weeks now and the loneliness blues are beginning to bite so time to make the effort. Places where I may attempt my sad attempts at Polish would be nice. Many thanks. E

Hi E, I think most places in Warsaw are pretty much OK. In general folks are friendly and quite happy to chat. Obviously Bradley's and Bar Below for the ex-pat crowd if you're missing Brit behaviour. Or try some of the small bars behind Nowy Swiat. Some nice places are opening up in Praga but in reality it is still a very dodgy area at night. Certainly not recommended if you are on your own (even a lot of my Polish friends won't go there after dark).

Em, you got to ask yourself what you are looking for in Warsaw? I'm from a pretty big Scottish city, Dundee, and have to say that there is more going on here than there. It's maybe difficult to take the first steps in Warsaw and find out where the happening places are but it's worth it. I think it would be useful if 'warsaw-life' was updated, it's a good database BUT could be better - are you listening admin

Trusty old Casablanca (very near the Copernicus monument) is a good place for meeting folk. Lots of the ex-pat teaching frat meet here and lots of Poles come to practice their english. Sometimes people even hold their private conversation classes here, so you can get sozzled, talk to people and possibly even get paid!!!

You had a friend Kriminal?? What happened to him? Did he get attacked and murdered by the Poles he met? Sounds dodgy to me! He must be a nutter! Legendary!

Hello all! Yes, I am Kriminal's pal! I do exist! I did not get murdered or eaten by Polish people! Sorry to disappoint you Legendary, but it takes a lot more than some crazy internet nuts to kill me off! :-D I met a lot of great people by just offering language exchange. There is a great event that takes place in Krakow every Monday night, called Tandem evenings. It's organised in association with Jagiellonian University and its free of charge. People from all nationalities meet up in a bar drink some drinks and exchange their various languages. I've seen Polish, English, French, Spanish, Portugese, Russian, German, Italian and others that I can't remember. I reckon that something like this would be a great idea for Warsaw too! What do you all think??

Ah Kriminalspal, good to know you're still alive. The Tandem evening sounds like a good idea! Much better than meeting randoms from the inter-web! That's just plain crazy! You never know who you might meet, which is very worrying! Legendary!
