Vietnamese Film Review

You are invited to the Vietnamese Film Review in the Kino Pod Baranami Cinema.

The program features five exceptional full-length productions, in which tradition mixes with modernity, and difficult history interweaves with optimism full of modernity.

Vietnam, a country located in Southeast Asia, is still seen above all through the prism of its tragic history, in which the Vietnam War, especially entangled in the Cold War intrigues, dominates. Vietnam, however, is also a fascinating, multiethnic place with a growing economy and industry, more and more often chosen by tourists as a vacation destination.

Viewers of the Vietnamese Film Review, will have the opportunity to experience a different, often completely unexpected and unusual aspect of this country. The program features five full-length films, among which are both older titles and the latest ones, appreciated at international festivals or amazing original approach to genre schemes. The classic item is History on Sand Written by Recognized Director Nguyen Thanh Van, who entered theatres in 1999.

This extraordinary story about the long-term impact of the war on the lives of residents is a captivating and surprisingly accurate introduction to Vietnamese history and customs. The film will be accompanied by a lecture of the Jagiellonian University lecturer specializing in Asian cinema - prof. dr hab. Krzysztof Loska (22 June). The opening review (June 21) of the film Krawcowa tells the story of sewing traditional Vietnamese clothes (ao dai) and ... time travels! The main role in the film, Vu Tran Diem My, will be a guest of the show. An extraordinary story (with gastronomy in the background) is also presented by the movie Interchange Station, which is the directorial debut of the renowned Vietnam actress Hong Anh. Its heroes are m.in. coming from nowhere, the mysterious wanderer Phuoc, the overbearing owner of the restaurant and his beautiful disabled daughter Chu. The Vietnamese cinema perfectly manages both sophisticated festival films and popular productions for the wide audience. Victor Vu's yellow flower in the green grass is a moving portrait of two dramatically different brothers in France, whose lives in the poor Vietnamese province are full of fun, quarrels and school. Meanwhile, the Jackpot: Dustin Nguyen's big win is a crazy comedy about the vicissitudes of a group of small-town Vietnamese and some winning fate in the lottery.
