MANI ORRASON (IS)
Mani Orrason is a singer-songwriter and musician, born in Iceland on the 24th of December 1997. He released his debut album in April 2015 with the acclaimed Icelandic label Record Records. Mani first appeared on the Icelandic music scene with his debut single “Fed All My Days” which peaked at No. 1 on the Icelandic Music Charts for 2 weeks.
In April 2015 Mani released his debut album and reached No. 3 on the Icelandic Album Charts. The same year he was nominated in the “Newcomer Of The Year” and “Music Video Of The Year” categories at the Listeners Award in Iceland.
Mani moved to Spain with his family at the age of 3. At the age of 10, his parents decided to move back to Iceland for a few years because Mani and his siblings barely spoke Icelandic anymore. His first instrument was the tuba, but soon traded it for a guitar after seeing a video of The Beatles playing at Shea Stadium. He started a punk Rock band with his friends while living on a farm in the south of Iceland. He started writing original songs when they competed in the Icelandic Music Experiments, at the time Mani was 12.
Soon after, Mani and his family moved back to Spain. That’s when he started listening to artists like Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Springsteen and of course The Beatles, which he refers to as the basis of his songwriting. When Mani was 15 he wrote, recorded and produced his debut album at home, playing every instrument. When the album was finished he flew to Iceland for overdubs and to mix his album at Syrland Studios. Later he would contact every label in Iceland and end up signing with Record Records.
After the success of his debut album, Mani has toured extensively in Iceland and Germany with his band and acoustic. He is now awaiting the release of his new EP, which will be released on the 9th of September in Germany and followed through with a tour in Switzerland, Austria and Germany.
