New Geothermal Well in Podhale Region

Geotermia Podhalańska SA company started drilling a new geothermal well in a town of Bańska Niżna near Nowy Targ. Water obtained from this 3.5 km deep drill will supply town's heating system, thus influencing pollution reduction in the area. An estimated 1000 households will be connected to the new thermal heating network within a year.
Until now the most popular means of heating houses in Podhale area are coal furnaces, often supplied with home waste, which makes the air in the region not so crystal clear as one would expect.
Between 1999 and 2011 pro ecological activities of Geotermia Podhalanska allowed to reduce carbon dioxide emission by almost 300.000 tons, as well as other toxic substances.
Currently thermal energy covers 35 percent of Zakopane's need for heat.
