All aboard the electric bus

Zakopane is to trial new, 'green' buses and taxis, ahead of proposals to create an environmentally friendly zone in the town. Authorities have ordered two electric cars for use a taxis, and a bus. The vehicles are all fully-electric, rather than the more common hybrid models which run on both battery power and traditional fuels. Janusz Majcher, Mayor of Zakopane, said that the cars would arrive in October, and the bus would follow. He added that the initial phase would be a test of the vehicles' capabilities, especially to see if they could deal with the harsh climate of a Zakopane winter. If they are successful, more would follow, Mr Majcher said.
