Black Cloud Flies Over Funeral

Iceland's volcanic eruption has caused chaos at airports across Europe, but the state funeral of President Lech Kaczynski and his wife will go ahead regardless of whether international dignitaries are able to attend. It is the wish of the late President's family.

Sunday's service is being held in Cracow, the former Royal capital. Poland has been in shock since Saturday 8th, when a Polish delegation crashed on their way to Smolensk, Russia. 88 leading figures from many spheres perished in the flight. They were due to observe the 70th anniversary of the Katyn crime, in which 22,000 members of the Polish elite were executed on Stalin's orders.

The plane's black boxes are currently being investigated. Dense fog descended over Smolensk shortly before the delegation was due to arrive.

Besides President Obama, international dignitaries due to attend the funeral include heir to the British throne Prince Charles, King Juan Carlos of Spain, President Dimitry Medvedev of Russia and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
