For a small town in the Highlands Zakopane certainly boasts a vibrant annual calendar of events - especially during winter, the mountain resort's peak tourist season. Ski slaloms, international ski-jumping and folk festivals are accompanied by raucous parties in the town centre, whereas Christmas and New Year's Eve are celebrated like nowhere else in Poland.
