European Union... one down, far to go

Members of several political parties participated in a "European March," which took place on April 30th in Wroclaw. The festivities commemorate the one-year anniversary of Poland's accession to the EU.

The political presence was almost entirely limited to members of leftist parties, including SLD, the ruling left-wing group which led Poland into the EU one year ago. SLD (the Alliance of the Democratic Left) has been enjoying one of the lowest approval ratings ever known: less than 10%, by some calcuations. Mired by corruption scandals and accused of poorly engineering Poland's accession to the Union, SLD may not have the support of 5% of the electorate during this year's elections (the minimum required for parliamentary reprsentation).
