Euro Kicks off in Warsaw

Warsaw is buzzing following the gripping opening match between the Polish and Greek national teams, which took place in the city's National Stadium. The game closed with a 1-1 draw, and both teams were reduced to 10 men by the end of the match. On the Polish side, striker Robert Lewandowski landed a header in the 17th minute, which was levelled out by Greek Dimitris Salpingdis in the 52nd. Red cards were issued to Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny and Greece's Sokratis Papastathopoulos.

The official Fan Zone in Warsaw's Plac Defilad square saw tens of thousands of fans turning the city centre into a sea of white and red. Major thoroughfares, such as Aleje Jerozolimskie, which links the fan zone with the National Stadium, were closed to traffic.

The next match at the National Stadium will take place on 12 June between Poland and Russia, a date which also coincides with Russia Day - the national holiday of Russia - something which will certainly raise emotions to an even higher level than usual!
