Warsaw's National Stadium Opens

Warsaw's brand new National Stadium, located on the right back on of the Vistula river, has celebrated its official opening. A free concert featuring Poland's top pop and rock acts marked the occasion, drawing over 40 000 people to the stadium. A fireworks display also lit up the night, with many brave Varsovians flocking to the riverbanks to watch the spectacle in the cold.

Warsaw's National Stadium is one of the four new stadiums that have been built in Poland to accommodate the upcoming 2012 EURO football championships, which are taking place across Poland (Warsaw, Gdansk, Wroclaw, Poznan) and Ukraine (Kiev, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Lviv).

The EURO championship's opening match will take place in Warsaw.
