One for the Road (Or was that 101?)

A Lithuanian lorry-driver amazed police on Tuesday morning when it became apparent that he had drunk 18 times the national limit.

"This guy should have been lying dead, but he was still driving - it must be an unofficial national record," a police official told the AP. "He was in high spirits and grinning the whole time he was questioned," the policeman added.

The ambitious driver, a Mr Vidmantas Sungaila, confessed that he had been drinking the previous night, and that a beer for breakfast seemed like a good idea to freshen up.

However, Mr. Sungaila's hangover ended up doubly painful, as he was heavily fined and stripped of his license for a three year term.

Police were initially alerted when they spotted Mr. Sungailas driving down the middle of a two-lane road, sixty miles from Vilnius. They pulled him over, and at first believed that the breathalizer must have overshot. However, subsequent blood tests revealed that Mr. Sungailas had indeed consumed a heinous quantity of alcohol.
