Wizz Air Expands To Vilnius

The low-cost airline has announced that it is to open a new base in the Lithuanian capital. Eight new routes will operate via the carrier's new Airbus A320, connecting Vilnius with the UK, Ireland, Spain, Holland, Italy and Sweden.

The service kicks off on April 16th, allowing travellers to savour spring in the Lithuanian capital. UK links will be with London Luton and Doncaster Sheffield, with five weekly flights to the former, two to the latter.

"Beyond further enhancing the travel opportunities in the Lithuanian market, we will create hundreds of local jobs and significant revenue uplift for the local tourism industry," said Jozsef Varadi, Wizz Air's chief executive officer.

The signing of a special agreement with Vilnius International Airport consolidates Wizz Air's status as the largest low-cost airline in the Central European region. Vilnius will be the 14th airbase in the region, joining others in Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, Serbia and the Czech Republic.
