Reflections On A Rollicking Good Cup

The viewing stands have been cleared, and the fans have flown back to their native lands. But the memories of Euro 2008 will live on. Even the English, who for once failed to qualify, were fulsome in their praise of the tournament. Jeremy Wilson, writing in The Daily Telegraph, said that this year's games were "generally acknowledged to be the best and most entertaining Euros in recent memory."

And for once, we had a final that wasn't ploddingly boring. There may not have been an abundance goals, but the closing match here in Vienna offered blood, sweat and tears, not to mention skilful, committed football. Well done to Spain, deserving winners of a fantastic cup.

Last but not least, a big thumbs up to Austria and Switzerland for delivering such a memorable tournament.
