Black Nights Film Festival Wins Tourist Awards

The Black Nights Film Festival, was singled out as Estonia's most outstanding tourist attraction of 2010.

Estonian President Toomas Hendrik llves handed the award to festival director Tiina Lokk at the Tourest Travel Fair this February.

The Black Nights Film Festival began in 1997, principally as a platform for Nordic film. However, it recent years the event has expanded its programme, to the extent that it now showcases films from around the globe.

The event traditionally takes place in late November, early December, and it has already spawned subsidiary festivals.

February's award, sponsored by the Association of Travel Agents, was given on account of the festival having become amongst the most sophisticated events in the region.

The festival has also won the seal of approval of the Paris-based International Federation of Film Producers (FIAPF), a group which evaluates film festivals across the globe.
