Editor's review

Situated in the center of Sofia's complex of restored historical houses from 1886, the Hadjidraganovite Kashti Restaurant is indeed the city's gem. It combines unique, traditional architecture and interior design of one of the most beautiful, historical places in Bulgaria: Koprivshtitsa, Zheravna, Melnik, Bansko, with the Balkan spirit of Bulgaria's national dishes. These herb-spiced, flavoursome delicacies are prepared on an iron plate and in an oven furnace, always from fresh, local ingredients, and served with a wide selection of Bulgarian wines. Hadjidraganovite Kashti's menu includes shopska salad, lamb in St. George style or a Hadjidraganov chop - a tip of the hat to the namesake of the facility, as well as the whole district of Sofia. A culinary adventure in Hadjidraganovite Kashti is not as easy as pie though; since Bulgarian customs and traditions are always related to the rich table piled with dishes, as a symbol of fertility, health and prosperity, you might expect the portions to come really hefty. Also, the restaurant's highlight are regular performances of traditional Bulgarian songs performed live. All in all, Hadjidraganovite Kashti is one of the best places in the city where you can experience Bulgarian hospitality first hand.

In a world where everyhing is becoming uniform, Mcdonalds in Urumqi etc, at least this is still trying to be something genuinely Bulgarian.

The food had the real flavour it can only get from being cooked with some care and interest and the music was interesting.

Not really that expensive either.

It would be a shame to miss this on a visit to Sofia.

Yesterday we ate the best food we have eaten in our 2 months of traveling the Balkans. The service was great and the food was truly fabulous. The restaurant has a great atmosphere, it was very traditional and was reasonably priced. Hadjidraganovite Kashti is a definite recommendation.

Tonight for the first time, my (Bulgarian) partner and I ate at Hadjidraganovite Koshhti. This place exceeded all expectations. I read the previous review on the way to the restaurant...and was kind of worried. However, after experiencing this place. I can say it was the best experience of my life. GREAT GOOD, GREAT ENTERTAINMENT, GREAT FREINDS. This place was the cleanest place I have ever eaten anywhere in the world. Everytime I return home to Sofia... I will visit Hadjidraganoviti Koshti and take all my friends.

To the Staff and Management of Hadjidraganoviti Koshti, THANK YOU. You have outdone yourselves again.

We were in HadjiDraganovite kashti for dinner. We were enjoying evening with friends when we saw two massive red cockroaches walking around our food on the table. When we called for the manager he did not show any concern and said 'Don't worry they have come from the kitchen!' The place is infested do not go there.

Terrific restaurant - the best we found during our 4-day stay in Sofia. Not the cheapest, but the food and service were outstanding. Keith.
