Former Tsar may run for Presidency

Simeon Saxe-Coburg, the child Tsar who went into exile in 1946, only to return to become prime minister after the collapse of communism, may run for president in Bulgaria's forthcoming elections this year.

Discussion about Saxe-Coburg's possible return to politics was sparked by an interview given by Hristina Hristova, current leader of the forme Tsar's party, the liberal NMSP.

The onetime Tsar's term in power was moderately successful, although his party has virtually faded away since he ceased to be prime minister in 2005.

Saxe-Coburg is currently embroiled in complex property disputes with the state. Some properties returned to his family during his tenure as prime minister have since become the focus of law suits, with prosecutors claiming that several properties were returned unlawfully.

Confirmation as to whether the former Tsar will stand is yet to come. Saxe-Coburg has been beset by personal difficulties in recent years. Besides ongoing court cases, his heir, Kardam is currently in a coma following a car accident in 2008.
