2014 European Film Academy Awards to Be Held in Riga

The European Film Academy has decided that next year's European Film Academy Awards will be held in Riga, announced the "Riga 2014" foundation.

The event will be held at the Latvian National Opera building on December 13, and it will be one of the main events on the cultural calendar that year, when Riga will be European Capital of Culture.

"The occurrence of such an important European event is undoubtedly a huge stimulus for Riga, a 2014 European Capital of Culture. The European Film Awards ceremony will invite European film professionals to feel the special charm of Riga's cultural abundance, while opening up the atmosphere of Europe's common cultural overlay, with Latvia also building up to its European Union presidency," says Diana Civle, Director of the "Riga 2014" foundation.

The European Film Awards take place in Berlin every other year, but are held in different cities in the other years.

In previous years, Paris, Glasgow, London, Rome, Barcelona, Warsaw, Copenhagen, Bochum, Tallinn and Valletta have hosted the wards.

Awards will be presented in 17 different nominations.
