Poznan Bids for 2018 Youth Olympics

Poznan has submitted a bid to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to host the 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games. This will be the city's third attempt at hosting, having failed previous attempts to host the 2010 and 2014 events.

Other cities vying for a chance to host the 2018 games include Buenos Aires in Argentina, Glasgow in Scotland, Guadalajara in Mexico, Medellin in Columbia, and Rotterdam in the Netherlands.

The Youth Olympic Games are a recent addition to the international sporting calendar, with the first edition having taken place in Singapore in 2010. Events take place every two years, alternating between summer and winter games. The most recent event was the 1st Winter Games in Innsbruck, which will be followed by the 2nd Summer Games in Nanjing in 2014.

Poznans chances to win the 2018 games are certainly higher than with earlier attempts, due to the massive renovation of infrastructure in the city, including a new stadium, in preparation for the upcoming Euro 2012 games taking place partially in the city.
