Road Trips

If you are really committed to exploring Miami, the city can keep you entertained for weeks. But sometimes a good 'ol road trip is necessary, especially with Miami's proximity to so many entertaining destinations.

Florida Keys

Key West is the most well-known of this string of islands. But consider that Key West is the southernmost tip of the state (only 90 miles from Cuba!) so there are plenty other destinations in the Florida Keys that are on the way or instead of going so far south. To generalize, each of these islands offers expected outdoor activities such as diving and an assortment of water sports. Some visitors even plan trips around getting certified to scuba dive. Key Largo, for example, is less than an hour (without traffic) from Miami proper, whereas Key West is about three and a half hours away. Dozens of stops in between Miami and Key West yield opportunities for great water activites, outdoor fun, and relaxation.

Disney & Orlando

Not everyone knows Orlando but everyone does know Disney, and in Florida's case, Disney World. The Disney theme parks in Orlando include the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, and more. The area of Orlando, which is also a college town to the University of Central Florida, is designed for the ultimate convenience of theme park-goers. Dozens of resorts and hotels connected with the park offer free connections to and from each. Many properties that are especially close have transportation that runs directly to the parks. For newbies, the best resource for everything Disney is this site, which will guide you through the booking process. There are also telephone representatives available who can help arrange each aspect of your trip. Visitors typically purchase passes, which allow for entry into multiple parks.

Everglades National Park

For those who crave time away from fast city life and want to come face-to-face with what most of the city is built on, Everglades National Park is a perfect getaway. Though the park is shrinking due to rapid development, the area encompasses the most dense wildlife in the region and is the largest subtropical wildnerness in the United States. Get immersed in the environment by taking an airboat tour or a wilflife watching experiences privately or in a group.
