Draw sets stage for Lviv's Euro 2012

Germany and Portugal will cross swords in Lviv's opening match of the Euro 2012 tournament on 9 June, as was revealed in the official December draw in Kiev's Palace of Arts.

Ukraine and Poland are co-hosts of the soccer showdown, with Lviv hosting three games in the opening phase of the event.

Four groups are set to go into action in June, with Group B matches held in Lviv and Kharkiv.

Following the German-Portuguese clash, Denmark will play Portugal on 13 June, and on 17 June Germany will play Denmark.

The Arena Lviv stadium was constructed specially for the competition, and the venue was officially opened on 29 October 2011.

I have no doubt that the opening of this stadium will stay in the memory of the citizens of Lviv forever," Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych declared that weekend.

"This is a stadium for young football fans who will bring their children and grandchildren here in years to come," he added.
