Editor's review

Pod Krzyzykiem is something of a tongue-twister for non-Slavic souls - it means under the little cross. Inside, you'll find a distinctive restaurant with all kinds of eccentric Cracovian flourishes. The owner has woven echoes of Stanislas Wyspianski's designs into the decor, with spiralling chestnut leaf balustrades, which were a hallmark of Cracovian art nouveau. This is an upmarket place offering high standards of service and well-delivered Polish and International cuisine. It's bright and cheerful and could well be a hit in Summer when the tables stretch out onto the square. Prices won't break the bank by Western standards either.

As of 1st January 2011, the restaurant is now CLOSED

WOW! The sign outside says like stepping into a giant dali painting and that truely sums up the experience. The decor is wonderful,so imaginative. If youre into Dali and Surrealism then you have to visit this place. Had hunters chicken which was very tasty. We recieved a complementary bread basket with cheese spread too. Tried warm raspberry tea with vodka after the meal which came with mini shortbread biscuits. Sounds like a strange choice of drink but it actually works very well and warmed us up on a chilly evening.

Ate here 14/6/08. Found the decor very interesting especially the glass floor with the scale model of Kracow town below. We enjoyed the food and just went for 4 starters of dumplings (very tasty) and we 2 shared beef roulade between 4 with some side dishes of vegetables. We chose the cheapest bottle of white wine and had about 4 lagers - the bill came to £78.00. I would say we enjoyed it and although I would recommend this restaurant, we found a much nicer one the following night down one of the sidestreets. You obviously pay a bit more for eating in a place which fronts onto the square.

Beautiful and unusually laid out restaurant.

Glass floor area over model of Stare Miasto!

Judicious use of mirrors

We(my wife and I)were given a complimentary starter of pork lard infused with garlic, onions, croutons and? and? - we could have just eaten more of this it was sooo good!

Because of this we only had starters - 2 each!

Pierogi - brilliant

Goats cheese - brilliant

Creamed herring - brilliant

Fried liver - brilliant

Service attentive and good

A really great place to eat.

I visited Pod Krzyzykeim on 12 October with 8 friends. We all had a wonderful meal, delicious food, great professional staff and really stylish interesting decor. Compared with UK restaurants of this quality it was really good value too - quite a bonus!

Vi var fire par som hadde en flott kveld på denne restauranten. Deilig mat, hyggelig personal, sentral beliggenhet og stilig innredning. Polske priser er heller ikke å forakte.Anbefaler absolutt dette stedet.

We came in here by chance and were thoroughly impressed. The service was excellent and the food delicious. The decor was interesting and provided a good conversation starter, especially the glass floor!

This gothic/artdeco themed restaurant, will take some beating. We all had a superb meal and fantastic friendly service. We visited it on a Monday night, which was quite quiet. We had attempted to book it for the Sunday night but it was fully booked. I would advise anyone thinking of going for a meal here, to email your booking in advance. We look forward to booking this restaurant when visiting next year.(try the wild 'boar' which is an old traditional meal).

After reading the reviews of this restaurant we went there for dinner and what a super place it is! The food was great and as for the decor, it was fab. We had the liver, boar and the hot choc souffle which was so good, I was made to share it. The liver in particular was excellent. The staff were delightful and I would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone, in fact, it is a must. So, not only was the food great, service charming, decor brilliant but is was reasonably priced and excellent value. I would love to go again!

We had a lovely lucnh ourside while watching a bike race that took place on the main square. Great food, service good. Had a quick look inside and very modern cosy, if that is possible. Would go again.

Excellent food that was quite a bit cheaper than that offered by the restaurants around it on the Market Square. Of course, the location could not be better. All the restaurants on the Square charge quite a bit more than those elsewhere, but this one seemed to be the best value. Try thr strawberry dessert!

went there on the strength of reviews on this site and was not dissapointed (the liver starter is to die for). there were 16 people in our party and every single one could not find fault, infact most went back the next day. we ordered a starter, main, and some dessert, a couple of beers each, about 4 bottles of red, and 4 white, 2 bottles of champagne, and all for about £25 a head. Oh, did i forget the ecxeptional decor. I cant wait to get back to krakow for many reasons, but this place i will surely return to.

Agree with the positive reviews. Decor is outstanding. Food is excellent. The fly in the ointment was that the restaurant was empty when we sat down - this was in August - and remained so for the entire evening. Hmm! If you are looking for superb food and wonderful surroundings, you will not be disappointed.

This restaurant does the rare job of scoring full marks on the four biggies: food, service, atmosphere, and value for money. So good we ate here two nights in a row and will be one of the main reasons for us to go back to Krakow!!

Unfortunately, we only had time for a lunch sitting outside at this restaurant. However, the food was excellent. The pierogi were superb.

My wife and I visited this restaurant after reading the reviews. One of the guidebooks likens it to stepping into a Salvador Dali painting - have to agree. The food is superb, cocktails potent and staff very friendly. One not to be missed!!!

One of the most mesmerizing restaurants I have ever visited. When you enter the restaurant it seems that you have entered a surreal world. The feeling you experience is comparable to the one in the Wizard of Oz when the film changes from Black and White to Color. It seems that Dali and Gaudi have created this restaurant together. The food and the drinks are very cosmopolitan and delicious (I highly recommend the cream of mushroom soup). This place is definitely a keeper and I cannot await the moment I return to “Pod Krzyzykiem”

this restaurant is really refreshing (i don't just mean the excellent cosmopolitan cocktails!) because of it's look to the future rather than a relic of the past. Good service and trendy restaurants do not always go together but they have achieved this here. This is definitely somewhere i would go back to on my next visit.

I was amazed when I found this place. The food is great (I reccomend herring in an apple and divine chocolate dessert), the staff are very friendly but what really hits you is the interior design. I felt like I was in a Cracow version of Harry Potter with a touch of Gaudi. Not only do you have a dragon, a small Cracow under your feet, church towers all over but also a sofa made in the shape of a dog! Wow.

Unique Kracovian experience! A combination of the romantic ambience, a view from above of Krakow and an excellent cuisine accompanied by an interesting winelist. Cannot wait to go back.

A funky restuarant with the decor creating a surreal almost "dali-esque" ambiance. The staff are extremely friendly and efficient and the food is particularly good. It also offers a nice place to get an aperitif with some good background music.
