Taxi boost for airport

Passengers arriving at Krakows John Paul II Balice airport can take advantage of a new, centralised taxi service, with fixed fees and drivers who speak languages other than Polish. The initiative has been organised by the airport, which wanted to create a network of taxi drivers to take passengers to their destinations in Krakow. It is the first scheme of its kind in Poland, and is being closely watched by other airports around the country. In addition to the language requirement, all drivers must be fully licensed, with cars no older than five years. There is a fixed price list depending on which of four city zones passengers travel to. It starts from 29zl for the city centre, rising to 69zl for outlying areas. And passengers will soon be able to pay for their trip when they arrive at the airport. In all, around 300 drivers applied to join the network, but only 120 met the requirements, an airport spokeswoman said.
