Secrets of the underground

Secret Nazi weapons will be among the highlights of a new exhibition in Krakow which opens this week. The National Army Museum has been closed for the past year, for a 5 million zł renovation. It will finally welcome the public back inside on Thursday. The permanent exhibition at the museum will be split over two levels. On the ground floor will be artifacts relating to the history of the Second Republic of Poland. In the basement, the exhibition will explore the origins and operation of the Polish underground state. In all, some 15,000 items will be on display. They will include weapons, uniforms, documents and photographs. Many have been provided by former soldiers and their families, and have been donated from all over the world. The artifacts are complemented by film and maps. Visitors can also learn about life in the Nazi and communist prison camps, through reconstructions in the musuem.
