Tales of resistance

The newest branch of the Krakow Historical Museum nestles close to both the Schindler Factory and the Pharmacy Under the Eagle, and deals with similar material. The permanent exhibition, Krakow Against Terror, is based at the former Gestapo headquarters and details the struggle by ordinary men and women in Małopolska for freedom during the years 1939-1945, and 1945-1956. It is impossible to avoid drawing parallels between the two totalitarian systems Nazism and Communism that dominated Poland during the war and the period of upheaval that followed. The documentary nature of the museum at ul. Pomorska 2 means it is similar in style to the nearby Pharmacy under the Eagle at Plac Bohaterow Getta small but densely packed with information and intimate detail that comes together as a picture of everyday life in an inhuman world. The museum is open Wednesday to Sunday, and admission on Tuesdays is free.
