Editor's review

One of the prettiest hotels in Cracow, the Grand is very close to the Market Square, in a rather fine nineteenth century building on Slawkowska Street. The interior, whilst retaining much of its old world charm, is right up-to-date in terms of facilities, with rooms equipped with phone, satellite TV and internet connections. All rooms also have their own individually-designed bathrooms, and are air-conditioned for the summer heat. A favourite haunt over the years of the nobility and figures from the Arts, the Grand continues its tradition of fine service amidst elegant surroundings, and can also organise visits and tours within and beyond Cracow.

We spent five tremendous nights at the Grand. The staff were extremely helpful and attentive, organising flowers and chocolates for my wife. A great position, ambience and first class rooms. Top notch hotel.

Rooms dated, staff not so helpful, really could do better considering the price.

Excellent location, and beautiful hotel. Nice touches such as bathrobe and slippers. Just a couple of things that were disappointing, breakfast was cold, no tea or coffee making facilities in room, the 24 hour room service finished at 230 hrs, and the receptionist didnt seem to have local knowledge.

Me and my Partner stayed at the Grand Hotel in Kracow Dec 19 & 20 2009. The Hotel boasts a fabulous staircase and the Xmas Trees were fantastic. The room was nice and clean, lots of hot water as it was -20 outside. Heating was great,Some staff not that helpful and a bit grumpy. Breakfast was ok, nothing to great a little on the cold side but not to bad, Meals and room service average. All in All not to bad I have stayed in better.. mind you I have stayed in worse. My Partner and I are due to visit again in December2010 can anyone reccomend a decent Hotel,In the same area, not to pricy please.

Thanks

Was great to be so close to the Christmas Markets. Literally around the corner. Big, palatial hotel with a recently spruced up feel. Clearly had an interesting history. No snow but you can't have everything!

Quality Hotel. Upgraded to enormous suites due to our rooms being unavailable with no heating but dont expect a good 'hot' buffet breakfast it is kept cool at the best with a small candle, otherwise 5/5. Eat continental instead. Handy for main suare and all attractions.Staff very helpful.

We had a wonderful and memorable time in Krakow, and the Grand Hotel was very good. We found lots of really good places to eat and enjoyed all the history of the city. Everyone was really friendly and if we go back again we will certainly be in contact.

Many thanks

Just arrived back from Kracov after staying at the Grand, a lovely hotel, great friendly and helpful staff. The rooms were spotless and there was a good variety for breakfast, my only moan form my wife and i was that the matresses were a bit hard and it could be a little noisey at night , but your only about a minute from the beautiful main square. I booked along with my flight thro Easyjet, all in all a very classy hotel

Wonderful - I stayed at the Grand Hotel in Krakow over the New Year, and despite the freeze outside it was always warm and comfortable in our room. Amazing decor too - I felt like a princess!

In October 2007 stayed with my wife and two close friends at the Grand. Cracow is a delightful city and the Grand is a charming hotel with excellent staff. The breakfast is substantial with good variety. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and the City has the most magnificent square. Eating out is great, too. We will return!!

Stayed at Grant June 2006, checked all the reviews before booking, yes it sounded like we made a mistake booking Grant Hotel, but to my surprise yes the room was great staff very helpful, the room very quite and big, no aircon needed nice and cool. So close to the square, nice breakfast, great coffee, very happy, I wish we could stay there for much longer. Yes great hotel, no problem with the staff, will stay again. Cracow great place, Grant represents the history. Keep up good work, I don't think I need a pool, too much to do in the city. Great thanks.

I was among a group of approximately 45 Canadian conventioners who stayed at the Grand Hotel, Krakow, in August, 2006, on our way from Prague, Czech Republic. I found the Grand Hotel to be a charming little palace. Each room with its own individual style, creates a pleasing ambiance. The staff was courteous and helpful; breakfasting there with friends was delightful as the servers were efficient and hospitable.

I can highly recommend this hotel as topnotch - not to mention the hotel's ideal location!

Thank you very much for your great service.

My wife and I stayed at The Grand in mid-November 2006 and loved it. The location is excellent just off the main square. When our taxi pulled up a uniformed porter opened the door for us before taking our bags. We had got an excellent price on a standard room through easyjet/Hotelopedia, but I asked how much extra the hotel would charge for a suite and we were able to come to a good deal. The rooms were superb and are in fact featured on their web site. The bar was quiet, but elegant, and all the service we received was excellent. We didn't get round to eating dinner there but the inclusive breakfast was very good, though hot sausages with onions were a novelty for me at that time of the day!

I stayed in Grand Hotel Krakow April 2006.

I booked two rooms - Double for me & my wife - Twin for my teenage daughters.

Prior to departure I checked reviews and was dismayed to read some comments.

I found the exact opposite - Staff were excellent - courteous, very helpful booking taxis and giving advice, most efficient.

Restaurant was perhaps a little disappointing with only one other couple dining and the food not quite perfect - also the bar was empty - but no doubt this was due to the guests not the staff.

Location is excellent - close to the square yet not in a noisy stree. If/when returning to Cracow I would have no hesitation in staying in the Grand again

I recently visited Krakow on a 5 day business trip with a colleague. I booked the rooms before reading the reviews on this site. When I read the reviews I seriously thought about changing my booking. I am so pleased that I didn't. I cannot praise the staff highly enough. We asked for one room to be changed because it had a shower but no bath. This was done immediately with all the grace and pleasantries that one would expect from a 5* establishment. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff, from room service to the arrangement of car hire.

The rooms were spacious, comfortable and warm (bearing in mind that it was -6 outside).

I will most definately use the Grand again. Highly recommended!

I was very disappointed by the staff, the management and the non-functioning air conditioning. Our room reservations were originally not honored, we were intentionally lied to, and when this information was brought to the attention of the absentee manager, it was disregarded as important. The rooms itself were attractive, unfortunately a freak heat wave allowed us to learn that the air conditioning system is absent in all but name. Great location right off the main square, but I'd recommend one of this hotel's more respectable neighbors. The Grand Hotel boasts itself a five star hotel, but in reality is an an Eastern European version of a 2 1/2 star with staff that needs desperate training.

We had a wonderful stay at the Grand Hotel in May. Breakfast was plentiful, fresh and friendly. Bell and doormen were professional. Front desk treated us with respect. Room was in perfect order, clean with excellent maintenance. We would stay there anytime.

Hello to you

I wish to inform you that i stayed at the grand hotel in kracow May 28th 29th 2005, when we arrived at the hotel we was informed that our rooms (2 sets of guests one usa one uk) had been given away and they asked us to leave??? we had booked these rooms via internet and travel company in March 2005, they tehn said the rooms did not have water and that was the reason, we then explained that we would take rooms without water, the receptionist then admitted that she was telling LIES and said her manager had told her to do this. i then walked out of the hotel and walked into the hotel next door and asked them to inquire abaout room availability with the grand etc, and suprisingly yes there was rooms available, how could this happen we asked, we requested to speak to the manager and was informed she was away in warsaw and the receptionist was laughing on the phone whilst speaking with her, however the manager then appeared some 2 hours later, again she could not have been in warsaw and again a lie, now please remeber this is a 5 star hotel and this is not what you expect from them, especially when they threaten to phone the police because we complain about not having rooms available. we was then given one single room and one double room both rooms the air con did not work and we was moved again. the breakfast was warm and the cheese was seriously off!!!, we requested a wake up call which we never recieved and missed our trip to auchwitz!!!!!, we requested an iron only to have the phone put down on us, we requested a final meeting on the last day for 11.00am and the manager arrived at 12:25 and i had a taxi booked for 12:30 leaving no time to discuss the hotels terms and conditions, the managers boss as she descibed him pretended to not understand us he walked in at 11.45 and went upstairs, all he had to say was "why you no pay" and smiled to me he was taking the piss is he supposed to run a quality hotel with an attitude like this?? i really do not understand his attitude, he actually looked a little gay to me and siad if i do not pay he will call the police as i left the hotel the police arrived even though i had paid. Now i can assure you that i will post this information on every website in the world to penilise you and your business and reputation will be ruined unless you credit both myself peter bates and randall goldring for the shabby disgraceful and insulting stay i had in your hotel, please be assured that i will continue this postin of information for many many many many many years. Over to you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We stayed at Grand Hotel for five nights in May 05. The location of the hotel is brilliant, and as we go to Cracow several times a year we decided to try Grand Hotel and to see if this could be our base in the future. All ratings of Grand Hotel shows that this hotel is first class. Unfortunately the service in the reception is not at all first class. Especially one girl working there was not at all helpful and polite. The bell men and the service in the restaurant was very good. The buffet breakfast was not very impressive. The room was not more than ok, but the corridors and atmosphere of the hotel was very nice.

we made a booking and confirmed the booking with you.when i arrived on the 5th in the afternoon i was told there was no room for me.I tavelled since 5 am that morning ,my husband is working in poland and he was making nhis trip to crakow by car .he was expecting to meet me at the grand and i could not get in contact with him.the staff were not very friendly and grumpy and kept saying there was no room for us. after some time they showed me a small single room.this was totally wrong and much to small for two people.they ordered a taxi for me and bundled me off to another hotel(i had to pay for the taxi myself).

the hotel which had a room for us was the senacki .We liked the hotel, the service etc. and couldn't fault it until saturday evening when we returned from a daytrip.my husband went to fetch the key and was told we no longer had a room there.all our things were put into plastic bags, shoes on top of nightclothes etc. the people at the senacki said the grand only booken us in until the 7 th.our booking with the grand was until the9th.both hotels denied responsibility and my husband phoned a polish work friend to talk to the hotel.some hotels were phoned but none had any rooms.after some more calls the receptionist at the senacki handed me the telephone and the receptionist from the grand hotel was on the line, saying:hello mrs locke where are you we are waiting for you?

the senacki hotel driver took us to the grand some 30 minutes later and when we arrived there we were told to go and get some drink and wait until our room would be ready another 30 mins passed.

no-one has admitted to this total utter incompetence and we were made to feel as if we are expecting too much!the secretary who made the booking could have been contaced some days before that our booking was not possible and we need to be going to another hotel.

our experience of hotel booking in poland is not good and we recommend for you to phone before turning up at a booked hotel.maybe even that will be not enough.we are still waiting for an appology a discount of the bill or something.....
