Hugo Race & Michelangelo Russo

Hugo Race and Michelangelo Russo are not newcomers, nor are they John Lee Hooker or the Blues. Blues has always been the basis of their music in the Hugo Race & True Spirit band. Now on the 100th anniversary of the blues king's birthday, they decided to present his songs in their own language. The album was recorded during a one-day, all-night session in Berlin at the Boris Wilsdorf studio (Einstürzende Neubauten), during which Hugo and Michelangelo looked from 21st-century perspective to John Lee Hooker's delta-blues heritage, magically mixing analogic persistence with a deep trance pulse. The selection of works is a story in itself: from the spectacular early Hobo Blues and Country Boy to the late Hooker blues, "The World Today" and "The Motor City's Burning" (it's actually a track by MC5, later recorded by Hooker in delta-blues version. Hooker's vision is blues, electronics, avant-garde and ambient, created by one of the greatest rock and roll prehistory.
