Bohemian Dream Rhapsody

Outstanding works of Symbolism never before shown in Poland. The exhibition "Masters of dreams" will feature over 130 artworks – paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures and ceramic pieces – sourced from dozens of bodies of art, both public and rarely opened private collections. The artists represented here were members of two generations of Symbolists; the first working in the 1880s and the second a decade later. Among the works from the 1880s there will be examples of Beneš Knüpfer’s highly dynamised compositions drawing on mythological themes, as well as some of the phantasmagorical visions of Hanuš Schwaiger. The 1890s generation could not be represented without works by Alfons Mucha, Jaroslav Špillar, Karel Hlaváček, Jan Preisler or Max Švabinski, with their trademark Art Nouveau style and ambiance. The exhibition is a joint venture with the Olomouc Museum of Art and the Prague publishing house Arbor Vitae.
