Lenin's wife waxed lyrical about Las Wolski in her memoirs (which are otherwise somewhat short on wistful anecdote and thigh-slapping humour). She would go for romantic bicycle rides there with her revolutionary husband, who was also something of a fan of Polish vodka and the excellent Zurek soup. She records that Cracow had a mellowing effect on the great man (the city was a safe place to avoid the glare of Russian spies in the years before the Great War). Today, besides having a rather atypical and commendable zoo, the woods retain many winning qualities. You can follow in the footsteps of the goodly Comrade Lenin, and indulge in a romantic afternoon stroll, whilst in Autumn, you can engage in that most Polish of fetishes - mushroom picking, (as of yet our historians have not discovered whether Lenin was a mushroom man, but watch this space.)

The Las Wolski is absolutely wonderful! Inside you will find adventure in walks, zoo, the Piłsudski mound and in the much cleaner air than in the center of Cracow. Pets are welcome to the forest but beware, there are some wild animals!!

The zoo is right inside the forest, making this the perfect place to spend a whole day in. There are so many paths and trails (all cleverly marked with different color flags so you can't get lost) so there's plenty to explore, and often you can find yourself alone with no human in sight.
