This is, without a doubt, one of Gdansk's finest restaurants - and certainly one of its oldest. The classy and elegant interior quickly puts you in the mood for good 'ol, traditional Polish. Given the fact that it's located in a famous coastal city, it's not surprising that the menu plays host to mostly seafood dishes. However, this is not some mom-and-pop shrimp stand; the entrees are based on 19th century recipes and emulate old-Gdanskian culinary traditions. The house specialties are: grilled salmon, a fresh salmon pate, and delicious white cheese soup, just to name a few. But don't think that you'll be "discovering" this sanctuary of sumptuousness - many world-famous guests have already enjoyed all it has to offer. Like who? Oh, I don't know, maybe you've heard of Pope John Paul II, Gunter Grass, or George Bush? Certainly, a highly recommended spot.

Wonderful place if you want to spoil yourself (and the missus!). Certainly an experience.

The Restaurant was beautiful but both the service and food were very poor. We were ignored for most of the evening and even had to go and find our own wine list. Maybe we went on a bad day but why risk ruining your evening

It is pretty expensive. But provided you're careful when choosing a bottle of wine, you can avoid bankruptcy!

Couldn't resist trying this one. Even though it's clearly something of a honeytrap for tourists, I enjoyed getting caught in its clutches for a very pleasant lunch. You have to spoil yourself once in a while

It's sad to see this consistently described as one of Gdansks finest restaurants. While the decor was beautiful and the service excellent, the food was generally poor - it says a lot when there is not one local group or couple were celebrating in Gdansk's 'finest' on a Saturday night. After an excellent liver starter we had high hopes, but when the mains arrived - while the deer was tasty and cooked well - the 'house speciality' salmon was terribly overcooked. Worse than that, however, were the unexcuseable side dishes that were not as described on the menu. Instead, these were *identical* for both dishes (deer and salmon?!) and consisted of a stone cold moussaka (left over from lunch somewhere?) and a a lukewarm, dry potato gratin. And charging for the half stale bread is just sad. Tired and lazy cuisine resting on its laurels.

Wow, this place was fantasic. I can't compare to the other restaurants in the city but the service was good (if a little slow as there was a large party in). Food was tasty, lots of choice and a good price (20 - 40 for starters, 30 - 60 mains). And the surroundings made us feel special. They speak good english too.

Just tested this restaurant and the overall impression is mediocre. Yes:king harald, margaret thatcher, lech walesa and god knows who have dined there.(The owners must have some good friends in the polish establishment). The food is okay but not more. The service stinks. Not one smile in three hours. The waiters were standing around like unblinking, unsmiling statues who gave us the impression that they wanted us OUT as soon as possible. Couldn't have been because they needed the table, because there were no one else there. Recommended only to tax collectors, george w bush and all sergeants of the US army. A shame that our night was ruined because the rooms/furniture are beautiful.

Very, very good food. The interiour is fantastic and worth a look. A bit more expensive then the other restaurants in town, but defenatiely worth a try.

This is my biggest disappointment ever. The kitchen is uninspired and not fine at all. Id expect my salmon a lot better from a restaurant that says its specialty is salmon! Yes the service is relatively good and the interior is amazing. But that doesnt count when the food is not better then average.

excellent food, professional staff, good surroundings, still very cheap for what you get..(london probably £80+, new york $100+)

So it's not as cheap as the awesome milk bars, but this place was easily worth a few extra zlotys. Good service and great food. What else could you need? Highly recommend it.

Perfect place to go out for a fancy meal. reminded me a bit of Tetmajerowska Restaurant in Krakow - ie not one to take the rugby club mates to. Excellent food!

Classy, the kind of service that you would expect from a high class restaurant. Tasty and good sized portions, and not all that pricey for an upscale restaurant.
