Torch Procession

The impressive flame torch procession on Christmas Eve is a real Eindhoven tradition. This event for peace and tolerance started in 1992 after the attacks on Turkisch migrants in Solingen, Germany. The program starts at 6pm at the Wilhelminaplein with musical performances, poetry and a speech from alderman Y. Toronoglu. He will be the first to light a torch, which will mark the start of the procession at 7pm. From 7.30pm there's Turkish folk music on the square and the procession will return around 8pm. You can see an impression of the 'Fakkeltocht' here.

To participate in the procession you can buy a coin for € 2,- (all proceeds of torch purchases go towards a good cause) and exchange this for a torch at the square. Coins are already available at for example the VVV, library, Café Wilhelmina, Vredesburo and Dynamo. On December 24th, the value of the coins will be € 2.50.

There's a side program on Christmas Eve as well with an oecumenical mass in St. Catherine's Church at 6pm, a children's Christmas night in the ESK Kapel (Kanaalstraat 6) at 6pm, a guided tour through the Fatih mosque (Willemstraat 67) at 8pm and a mass in the Student Chapel at 10pm.
