Hockey Championships Wrap Up

The World Ice Hockey Championship was held in Slovakia this year, in both Bratislava and Kosice, and wrapped up last month with Finland beating Sweden in the finals 6-1.

After a goal-free first period, Sweden took the lead in the second period courtesy of Magnus Paajarvi. However, as the final score attests, the Finns managed to quickly recover with several well-played shots ending in a final score of 6-1. This is the fourth time the two teams have gone head to head in a championship final. Finland last took the gold 16 years ago in 1995.

Unfortunately host country Slovakia dropped out of the running in the qualifying rounds.
