7 Month Delay for New Berlin Airport

Berlin's mayor Klaus Wowereit has announced that Berlin's new airport, the Willy Bradt International airport, will be opened seven months late. Instead of opening in October of 2011 as originally planned, the Willy Brandt airport (named after the former mayor of West Berlin and chancellor of West Germany) will open on 3 June 2012.

Over the last few weeks, the project has been plagued with problems which has led to the creation of a new plan for the construction of the airport and the addition of 112 million euro to cover the delays. Amongst the issues were the collapse of the company behind the airport's construction and new safety standards for the European Union.

Once opened, the Willy Brandt International airport will be Berlin's sole air hub, replacing the Tegel and Schonefeld airports currently in use.

This airport seems to change its name every few months. First it was going to be just called 'Berlin Airport', then 'Brandenburg Airport' and now I think its official title will be "Berlin Brandenburg International - Willy Brandt" Others wanted it to be named after Albert Einstein!
